Andretti Cadillac saga far from over despite F1 rejection

It’s been quite the news week in Formula 1, with a host of huge headlines following one after the other.

Things kicked off with the confirmation that F1 were rejecting Andretti’s bid to join the grid from 2025 and add an eleventh team to the championship, before Andretti released a statement outlining their natural disappointment and the FIA, backers of the Andretti bid, released their own communique that they would be reviewing ‘next steps.’

Of course, that big story was largely buried in a matter of days by the revelation that Lewis Hamilton is joining Ferrari for 2025 – at least there’ll be one big shake up on the grid for next season – but the Andretti news cycle is far from poised to wind down.

Whilst, for F1, the case has been opened and shut in their minds, with the door being left ajar for a proposal involving GM-produced power units in 2028, it appears that both Andretti and the FIA feel as though there is more that can be done in the interim:

“Andretti Cadillac has reviewed the information Formula One Management Limited has shared and strongly disagree with its contents,” said a statement from the American group.

“Andretti and Cadillac are two successful global motorsports organisations committed to placing a genuine American works team in F1, competing alongside the world’s best.

“We are proud of the significant progress we have already made on developing a highly competitive car and power unit with an experienced team behind it, and our work continues at pace.

“Andretti Cadillac would also like to acknowledge and thank the fans who have expressed their support.”

Meanwhile, the FIA said:

“The FIA notes the announcement from Formula One Management in relation to the FIA Formula One World Championship teams’ Expressions of Interest process. We are engaging in dialogue to determine next steps.”

Work ‘continuing at pace’, and ‘next steps’ being determined – this appears far from over.
