Christian Horner discusses 2025 options for Red Bull seat alongside Max Verstappen
Red Bull team boss Christian Horner says that all options are open to the team for 2025 in terms of who will partner F1 champion Max Verstappen behind the wheel.
Verstappen enjoyed another dominant campaign in 2023, with him breaking records for most wins in a season and also moving to third in terms of the most wins by a driver in the history of the sport.
By contrast, his team-mate Sergio Perez had a difficult year. Though the Mexican secured second in the standings he was miles away from Verstappen in terms of points come the final chequered flag in Abu Dhabi, and rumours around his future at Red Bull swirled considerably.
Indeed, Daniel Ricciardo is back on the grid with AlphaTauri, and has been tipped for a return to the Red Bull team in the future, potentially replacing Perez.
That might not be the case for 2024, at least to start with, but 2025 appears to be far less certain in terms of that second driver seat alongside Max at Red Bull.
“As a team, you want to field the most competitive pairing that you can have, and you want the right dynamic in the team,” Horner said to Sky Sports.
“Max and Checo have been a tremendously successful pairing. Checo, in his three years with us, has finished fourth, third and second so he’s on a good trajectory. Daniel is well known to us – it’s great to have him back in the Red Bull fold – and of course everything is open for 2025 onwards.
“For us, to have options internally and also externally is no bad place to be.”
