Toyota give Elfyn Evans injury update ahead of 2024 WRC season
Toyota have given an update on Elfyn Evans’ fitness ahead of the new WRC season next month.
The iconic Monte-Carlo rally will kick off the campaign as ever in January, but Evans cast some doubt over his availability after an accident on his bike.
Indeed, the rib injuries sustained from the accident in Spain whilst he was training meant that he was sidelined from winter testing last week ahead of the 2024 WRC campaign, but his team has sought to allay fears that he will miss any further running, with him set to be on course to be involved in a further pre-season test next month before the 2024 championship begins in earnest.
Speaking to DirtFish Toyota team principal Jari-Matti Latvala discussed the injury and said: “Things are looking good. Elfyn has seen the doctor and the doctor is positive right now that we are still on schedule with the testing plan.
“We haven’t changed anything for his Monte test. I don’t remember exactly the dates, but it’s still around mid-January.
“He was supposed to be testing last week, but he wasn’t able to make it. It’s OK. Taka [Katsuta] did two days and this test was about giving the drivers a chance to be back in the car in winter conditions ahead of Sweden.
“When we first heard [about the accident] we were concerned, of course, and we started to think to a back-up plan, but once he got back to the UK everything was – and is – looking good.”
